This is the evidence behind the journal. Every finding here was opened at its original source rather than taken from a summary, and every one records who it was actually measured on. Updated 2026-10-08.

How to read it

  • Findings are grouped by lens: who is at risk, the people around them, the wider system, what helps, and why we check.
  • A Measured on young men badge means the study actually sampled them. Partly means young or male, not both.
  • Numbers that don’t hold up collects figures in circulation that did not survive being traced back.
  • What we’re checking next is the open queue. One question a week, and each answered question becomes a journal entry with its sources.

The method is written up separately: how I check sources.

Topics

One subject at a time, researched to the end before the next one opens.

Young men, gaming, and gambling

Why young men are described as most at risk, whether that holds up, and how what happens to them reaches everyone else.

10 checked findings · 3 measured on young men · 89 leads waiting

Findings from adjacent fields, such as habits, incentives and therapy, are held back until the ‘what helps’ questions are researched properly.
